Project overview

Shoshin Tech is an EdTech company that aims to empower individuals through products that foster personal well-being and skill development.
The website redesign was an essential part in making the company's story, culture, and offerings more approachable, minimal, and relatable, both for existing users and new visitors. As the designer, I collaborated with the tech lead and a marketing intern, taking responsibility for UX, UI, and improvements to site visibility.

The Challenge

While the original website held the brand’s colors and language, its design did not translate the company's story, the mission and the culture. There was also a lack in visibility, making it hard for users to connect with us or even find us online. The need of the hour was an inviting, light, and direct web experience centered on our brand’s unique voice.

The company focuses on being task focused, purpose-driven, and here to make a difference. We wanted to convey through our design that all creativity and quirkiness is welcome.

We wanted to -

  1. Tell a clear, compelling brand story

  2. Use minimalism and subtle color to soothe and engage

  3. Increase visibility and connecting with visitors

  4. Make the website intuitive, easy to use and free from clutter

  2. Use minimalism and subtle color to soothe and engage

  3. Increase visibility and connecting with visitors

  4. Make the website intuitive, easy to use and free from clutter

How it started -

To make sure we hit the nail on the head, we first needed to know what is NOT working. Here's what we realized -

  1. It was hard to connect with the audience since our story wasn't very clear.

  2. The website was not among the top search results in Google. We all know what that means.

  3. The website did not reflect us - the people behind the screen, the company itself.

How we tackled these things -

  1. Defined not just the brand colour's and fonts but also the content language, the visual elements and the overall architecture of the website.

  2. Figured out ways to make the website simple, to the point yet interesting.

  3. Designed an easier and smoother job application flow on the website, allowing people to find job openings and reach the application form in 2 clicks.

Design execution -

Since the goal was clear as day now, I sat down in front of my precious notebook (we used to call it the bible), sketched out my thoughts on how I wanted the website to look, section by section, page by page. And watched how ideas took shape.

Once my hand-drawn wireframes were done, I chose an illustration library with beautiful, simple, minimal illustrations, something that would go perfectly with the aesthetic of the website.

Using Wix to create a website was a fun, experimental, and exciting process. It allowed me to play with ideas and enhance them with the abilities Wix gave me.

Designing the careers page held one and only one aim. Make it easy, flowy and simple. Make it super quick for anyone to find the job they are looking for and apply..

Not to forget, the website had to be responsive. We wanted to let anyone check out who we are and what we are all about from anywhere, on any device and have the ease to apply in an instant.

What we achieved -

  1. Elevated user experience—visitors connected to our company culture and goals

  2. Improved visibility and organic searchability for Shoshin Tech

  3. Streamlined job applications on the website, with intuitive navigation.

  4. Reinforced brand identity through visual harmony and tone of content

What I learnt -

  1. Though I had created 2 websites on Wix before this, creating this particular website made me go deeper into what Wix provides and experiment and learn much more.

  2. This project was not just about design but also about understanding how to focus on what users want.

  3. While solving the problem of platform visibility, I got to learn about how design plays a crucial role in influencing user trust, and overall business visibility. Designs can define how a brand is perceived and thrive in a competitive landscape.

  4. And mostly, less is more.
